Hobbies Themed Learning Package |African Drum & Mark Lov

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our academic theme Hobbies! Hobbies help children explore their interests, relax, and develop skills in different areas! No child is too young to start their first hobby!

Toy and Learning Material Suggestions

The learning package selected for Sophomores is comprised of a book and learning material that are perfect for exploring the theme of Hobbies!

The book for our little Sophomores is Mark Loves Music. Mark is a little boy who is interested in playing many different types of musical instruments. But, uh oh, Mark’s neighbors think he makes too much noise. Mark keeps on practicing every day to improve his skills, but then one day, to everyone’s surprise, Mark suddenly quits playing. Now everyone is worried that Mark has dropped his favorite hobby. Finally, everyone is overjoyed when Mark starts practicing his hobby again!

The African Drum is a learning material that is perfect to spark your child’s interesting in learning about and playing music. Drums allow children to have fun while developing skills in many different areas. Students learn and develop an ear for music while enhancing their auditory skills. Young children learn co-ordination and rhythm with the movement of their hands. Playing drums helps to develop concentration, strengthen hand muscles and enhance fine motor skills. Students can also express themselves emotionally though music and learn to better communicate non-verbally through listening to other players. Drumming can also be a collaborative, interactive process, and therefore it can develop social skills like turn-taking and sharing.

Additional Learning Tips

Hobbies help children use their leisure time in a productive and creative manner. Here are a few suggestions that can help guide your child on how to choose a great hobby:

• Be a role model for your child! For example, if reading is your hobby, help your child begin reading as their very own hobby. Encourage and have fun reading colorful picture books with your child!

• Talk about what your child likes to do. Understand the interests of your child and motivate her towards her own interests. Encourage what they like rather than push your child to do things they don’t want to do.

• If your child is interested in music, take her to stores that sell musical instruments and take the opportunity to introduce her to the real things.

• You could even enroll your child in for lessons or encourage her to attend workshops in something she is interested in!

Thanks for allowing us to share a few suggestions that can help you guide your children through the Hobbies theme. We hope you find them fruitful and useful!
