Floor Puzzle on Solar system

Dear Parents,
Welcome to our new theme: Outer Space! This is one of the most exciting, enjoyable and
anticipated themes for our young students.

Toy and Learning Material Suggestions
Our lovely Solar System Jigsaw Puzzle is the learning material for our Seniors tied to this
theme. Please visit the Sunshine Home Books and Toys Store at Ruijing Mall to view a sample.
This hands-on manipulative gives your children an opportunity to enhance their problem-solving
and cognitive skills while also working on hand-eye coordination.

It can also be fun for their family and friends to join together to complete the puzzle! Here are
some more ways to explore this topic with your children.
• Play a game of unscrambling the names of the planets or terminologies related to space.
• Let your child quiz you about the planets: Which is the biggest planet? Which planet is
closest to the sun? Which is the coldest planet? You might have to some research!
• Encourage your child to do solar system art activity by draw pictures or making a model
of the solar system. More advanced kids can write the names of the different planets.

Additional Learning Tips
Children in or preparing for first grade already have a fair amount of knowledge about the
solar system. Take the time to explore what they already know and extend their knowledge
further!
• China and the world are actively exploring outer space right now. Share the latest findings
by astronomers and astronauts related to outer space.
• Comets and meteors are a fascinating topic for children. Why do they have a tail? What
are they made of? Has mom or dad ever seen a meteor shower?
• Explain that the sun is actually the closest star to Earth. Talk about how the sun sustains
life on Earth through photosynthesis.
• Discuss about what happens during a Solar and Lunar Eclipse. Later you can encourage
your child to demonstrate it through a simple experiment.
• Discuss the first man in space, Neil Armstrong! Talk about China’s taikonauts and the
Tianhe-1 space station, which is planned to launch in the near future.
• Kids love to read books related to outer space. Incorporate family reading into your daily
routine.

Thanks for allowing us to share a few suggestions that will help you guide your children
through the Outer Space theme. We hope you find them fruitful and useful!
