Making Science Fun

With a bit of preparation and forethought, science can be an exciting topic for your children to partake in at school and at home.

Doing hands-on science activities, exploring the outside world or visiting a children’s science museums can all aid in fostering a sense of curiosity and fascination in children.

Conducting experiments at home is a great way to build your children’s enthusiasm for learning science. It also helps create a stronger familial bond.

A fun but simple experiment to try is building a miniature volcano.

Allow your child to help you make a volcano out of clay and then have her put a small cup of baking soda inside your creation. When you’re ready to see the volcano “explode,” add half a cup of vinegar to the baking soda and watch as the volcano oozes “lava.”

Exploring outside is one of the best ways to get kids excited about science and the world around them!

Try taking your child to a local park and encourage them to observe the different types of plants and animal life. You can also try bringing bird food and have your child record each type of bird that comes to feed on it.

Taking a day trip to the local science museum is a great way to make your child eager about science.  Museums typically have a variety of different exhibits, from hands-on to visual, to capture your child’s attention.

Best of all, visiting a museum is an activity from which you can learn as much as your children learn! You can find out more about the Xiamen Science and Technology Museum by visiting their www.xmstm.com.cn website.
