Dear Daniel,

This is the first letter I have ever written to you. I am so grateful to Sunshine Home for this parent-child education campaign because it’s a great opportunity to send you the first letter in your young life.

Thanks you, President David, and all the lovely and warm teachers! I also want to deeply thank to Ruijing consultant Lisa. Even though we worked together for a short period before joining the Sunshine Home family, you patiently communicated with our family to smoothly address all our concerns. 

I also want to thank teacher Eileen. She’s your favorite teacher, you even calls her "Eileen mommy." She always wants to know you more deeply and I’m touched how she cares about you. Your lead teacher and co-teacher clearly love you and are very patient with you. 

You were afraid when you first went into a new environment for class. You feared leaving mom and grandma. You cried at the front gate until the teacher gave you a warm hug and held you on the way to your classroom. 

I clearly remember the first day you went to school. Your grandma and I took you to school together. Teacher Eileen gave you a big hug at the door and I accompanied you to your first class. Teacher Rummy patiently read a poem and taught all the kids to recite the poem.

After class, you saw a pile of toy and work material. You didn’t show any panic or anxiety. You listened to the teachers, sat quietly and began to play with the toys. Even though you’re only three years old, you did a great job.

You were calm even when some of the other children were crying and uneasy so l think you will be well this semester. I do hear from the consultant that sometimes you don’t listen to the teacher in class. But I know you’ll get there.

In addition, I’ll tell you a little secret. On the first day you went to class, your grandmother was so worried about you that she cried at home because she missed you so much.

Daniel, I am sorry to say that your first semester's attendance was not perfect. You missed a week of class because you had a serious cold. Sunshine Home took a personal interest in your health and helped us to worry less during your recovery. 

To be honest, occasionally you can be a bit naughty and lack patience but at the same time you show so much resilience and you never give up easily. I want to praise you for behaving seriously in class. Sometimes at home we let you have your way because we don’t want to hurt your self-esteem. But we also know we can’t let you do whatever you want so I'm happy that you are handling well the discipline of being in class.

For example, we bought a series of Thomas the Tank picture books for you to read together at night. Even during the day you clamor to do more games or to read about Thomas with us. You know all the names of the different characters and can recite all their stories.

I’m glad you are a confident young boy because sometimes as parents we are not perfect. One night you were playing in your room and having a great time and you didn’t want to go to sleep. I have to admit that I lost my temper. You didn’t cry, you stood quietly at the door and said: “Mom, I’m sorry.” Dad was still upset: “You are so naughty, mom will not love you anymore.” 

You were so sad and there was nothing grandma or I could do to comfort you. Afterwards, we apologized to you and you accepted our apology. Thank you for being so brave, confident and forgiving.

Daniel, always remember that we will always love you whatever happens. As you get older, I can’t always be by your side to protect you. You need to be a little man and protect yourself. 

But as your parents, we promise to help you grow and to become the beautiful person we know you will be. Please be patient and calm as you encounter new life experiences and grow into a young man. 

More than anything else in this world, I wish for you to be happy forever.
