Being a teacher provides a perspective of great juxtaposition. Every day is routine, but the children are constantly changing. Watching my students grow up and become intelligent, respectful young people is the greatest reward.  It is humbling, and I remind myself that although the children look at me as an authority figure, we are all still the same.     

I love the purity that children radiate. When they laugh it brings a smile to my face, and their jokes warm my heart. Even when they are naughty, it is usually so trivial that their mischief can be forgiven. Working with children reminds me to enjoy the simple things in life, but also to live for more than just myself. 

Carpe diem is my motto. It means, “Seize the day.” I do not want to take life for granted. Children show me that every moment is precious. I’ve learned the importance of understanding myself so that I can treat people better and be a kinder person. I hope the children learn from me as much as I learn from them as we all become happy, self-aware, and altruistic people.
