Drills for Epidemic Prevention and Control Before School Reo

Four Sunshine Home schools carried out morning and afternoon health check and emergency drills on March 5th. They did so In order to conduct epidemic prevention and control measures, and to practice entering school at a staggered schedule, conducting morning and afternoon checks, assigning specific job assignments and position responsibilities when school reopens.

Led by the principals, all the staff members of the epidemic prevention and control group learned about "Covid-19 Prevention and Control Plan for The New Semester", "Sunshine Home Morning and Afternoon Check Plan" and "Covid-19 Morning Check Procedure" respectively in the conference room.

Focusing on the morning checks and emergency events that may occur when kindergarteners return to school, all staff members had detailed discussions on the matter. The group specified job assignments, position responsibilities and allocated each section of work to specific people.

Teachers and staff learned about the morning check process.

After study, teachers and staff practiced drills for different situations, such as morning check and potential emergency response upon school’s reopening, so as to specify each person’s positions and responsibilities.

Emergency Drills Scenes
Scene 1

The nurse and staff in charge of the morning check prepared the equipment. Teachers and staff had their temperatures taken at the school gate and washed and disinfected their hands before entering the kindergarten.

All teachers and staff must take their temperature and disinfect their hands at the school gate.

Scene 2

Security guards held protective instruments and guided parents to line up in order to wait for their morning check by spacing out at a space beyond one meter. The teacher on duty checked the line.

The morning-check staff took the temperatures of the children at the school gate (teachers played the role of the children in the drill).
The school nurse conducted morning checks. Teachers led children into their respective classrooms after seeing that their temperatures were normal and that they were in good health.

Scene 3

If the temperature of teachers or children was above 37.2℃ and remained high after several checks, the teachers or children were immediately led into the outdoor isolation area for isolation.

The consultant stayed and waited after reaching out to parents to discuss what would happen next.

If their body temperature was still high after their second screening with a mercury thermometer, they then initiated the standard epidemic prevention procedure.

They would dial 120 to pick up the patient, and report the situation to the principal, CDC and district education bureau in a timely manner. The school nurse kept relevant records and followed up with the patient.

Scene 4

In the event that someone presents an abnormal temperature during morning checks or that parents were unwilling to cooperate or rushed into school without permission, security guards took timely action and stopped them right away to ensure the safety of all teachers and children.

Consultants or the principal reached out to parents to put them at ease.

Scene 5

If children or staff with an abnormal temperature occurred in the afternoon or during the school day, they were taken to the indoor isolation room by their home class teacher and checked by the school nurse.

They received a second screening with a mercury thermometer. If the temperature remained abnormal, the consultant immediately reached out to parents to explain the situation and the school nurse closely followed the health of teachers and students on duty according to standard epidemic prevention procedures.

After the drill, the principal gave a summary and feedback for the drill. The epidemic prevention drill for Covid-19 greatly improved all teachers and staff’s ability to fight against and respond to the epidemic. This ensured the health of all teachers and students at school upon school’s reopening.
