The Importance of Relaxation




Relaxation has been proven to boost confidence and create positive feelings in children. It can also prepare children to better handle social situations or moments of uncertainty. As a parent, there are a few methods you can introduce to your child to help them learn how to relax. 



Deep breathing helps decrease a child’s heart rate and allows a child to calm down. The child can take a deep breath through their nose, hold it for 2 seconds, and then exhale out their mouth. It might be helpful to tell your child to imagine they are smelling a flower on the inhale, and then blowing out a candle on the exhale.

 


Children love listening to music and it can be used as a great stress reducer. Find music that your child genuinely loves listening to. You can play it in the car or in your home.  



Exercise releases endorphins, which instantly makes a child feel happier and more relaxed. When the air and temperature is nice, take your child to a park or to one of the beautiful mountains around Xiamen! 



Give your child time to close their eyes and visualize something he or she loves. This gives the child a moment of silence, and it also has the power to provoke similar feelings to that of the image. For example, if your child loves dogs, they can close their eyes and imagine petting or playing with a dog. 



Lastly, laughter is a great form of relaxation. Use funny books, movies, jokes, and anything that makes your child laugh!
