Independence is the acquisition of skills

Independence is the acquisition of skills or abilities that one can do for oneself. The Montessori Method puts emphasizes functional independence in daily life.

Children have a deep sense of personal dignity, strive for independence. Self-confidence emerges from functional independence.

Development of independence fosters self-esteem and personalit.

Every child wants to feel and be a full participant in daily activities. Children over age of 2.5 are no longer babies and should not be treated as such. Things a child can do himself should be left to the child, to reduce culture of dependence. Doing things unnecessarily for child may be more convenient but slows path to freedom.

Functional independence is the care of the environment and of the self, and includes an ability to make needs known. Our in-class materials teach the basic skills needed for functional independence in daily life.
